A perfect Friday evening wraps up like this, entertwined, reading a good book.
What a week! Wednesday we optimistically looked out the window for a hint of sun and blue skies. We were sufficiently rewarded for our patience with a gorgeous morning spent among the flowers.
Later that afternoon we made a few laps around the neighborhood park.
Early the next morning I woke her up to join me on a punch list for a project before the furniture and the art arrived to be installed. She trailed behind me, the contractor, and the owner as we went methodically through each room, crossing items off the list – most relating to painting or clean-up. The place looked great, the list was crossed out, and she followed me back to the first room where I had left my notebooks and keys. One of the original heaters in the wall (installed previous to this renovation) was over in the corner where she was standing. All of a sudden I heard a “Pssst. Mom, come over here.”
She was whispering, but her tone was urgent and she was pointing at the top of the heater.
I walked over to where she was standing and looked at the caulk line she was pointing to.
“Mom, it’s really crooked. It’s pretty messy. I think they need to fix it.”
So now maybe I’ll take her along with me on all these things…just for the extra careful, extra picky pair of eyes…
And then tonight we wrapped up the rest of our gift for a birthday party this weekend. Perhaps she was inspired a bit by the flower mural on the wall behind her. I have to hand it to her. The girl’s got a nice hand. And when the project is a gift she’s all business. Can’t wait for the celebration. So glad it’s the weekend. (Insert deep breath here.)
I really should get some sleep to make up for the early rise this morning. But my better half arrived home with (alas, no Juno) No Country for Old Men and he’s finished popping popcorn on the stove so I think it’s time to do a little entertwining on the sofa with a good Friday night flick. Like I said… a perfect Friday wraps up like this…
That is a fabulous bag!
