This is yet another stay-at-home day – day three of the flu. (That’s nine days home in the last two and a half weeks if you’re keeping count.) She’s kicked the fever, but is exhausted by the effort. No eating, just a little drinking and a lot of lounging. Sounds like me for the past few months! We decided today to try a pretty tame activity and make some progress on her 3D coral sculpture for her coral reef at school. The coral she chose is star coral, and she has to make it out of recycled materials that she has around the house. This is a perfect activity for as she puts it, “There should be no trash in the world, all the trash should be delivered to children’s rooms where they will turn it into something wonderful with a little glue or tape.”
Here are our initial steps in creating our coral sculpture:
1. Place styrofoam peanuts in paper muffin cups.
2. Twist shut with ponytail rubber bands.
3. Fringe the tops with Mom’s sharp scissors.
4. Drop beads of glue onto the fringe.
5. Affix beads to the glue.
Dad’s got some cool stuff for the base to attach these to. Then we’ll take it outside and spray it with some orangey-pink spray paint and we’re ready to go.
Ella,
You are right. There should be no trash in the world. You are very creative in recycling for your project. Your star coral is beautiful! I’m glad your fever is gone. Keep getting better. I love you!
