trick question

Posted on May 13, 2009 by thirdstoryies

What’s so exciting about this new light in E’s bathroom? The most obvious answer to that question is that it represents the last thing to be done in this room. There is nothing left to do at all – no new things to purchase, no final punch list items to wrap up. The only things required in this room are the occasional cleaning and finally getting to the point where our daughter will brush her teeth for more than 30 seconds before being reminded she needs to do it a bit longer. I will probably be calling her in college reminding her of that very thing.

But the real reason this light is so exciting is that it was bought on the fly a couple of weeks ago and installed this past weekend because the room is going to be photographed for a magazine feature next Monday. If you’ll remember, we entered it into a contest a few months back, and while it was not selected for that (too bad, nice prize), it was instead singled out for a feature piece later this fall. Which requires a bit more effort on our end (interviews, photo shoot, before and after plans, material lists, etc…) with a little less reward (again, too bad, nice prize). But it will make our weekly trips to the hardware store a bit more fun when we can casually pull that issue off the magazine rack in the checkout line and casually open to the article, and casually see the bathroom in its technicolor glory. E will be part of the shoot, and may or may not make the final layout cut, but she’s excited nonetheless. And it will be fun to see what the stylist does with the space – we already know that they’ll be bringing in their “own” towels – I’m sure they have a much higher thread count than our nine year old ones do. M asked if we got to keep them. No such luck.

We’re still being a bit hush-hush about it, but we have been given permission to discuss it on this blog and nowhere else. It’s always up to the editor if it makes the final printing. But for now we are excited about the opportunity to be a part of a national magazine that has given us helpful tips and advice along our journey, and the process itself is an interesting one. We’ll be sure to post more info once it hits the newsstands…
