Some certain seven year old that we know took it upon herself to plan out her own birthday party, right down to the making of the cake. And although party planning is really fun for me, turning over the reins to someone else who just happens to be a pretty creative kid was a lot of fun as well. Even turning over the baking and the assembling of the cake was a lot of fun. Trying to get six layers together with a cool whip frosting on the hottest day of the year definitely required four hands! I thought she did a spectacular job, and you should have heard the squeals of delight when we cut into that cake…I mean, wouldn’t you??
It really was an easy recipe – we got the idea from Hilary Lang of Wee Wonderfuls – she made one for her daughter’s birthday. Even the frosting was easy, and delicious! I might second her suggestion of making a stickier frosting for between the layers to hold the thing together better.
Lots of teeny tiny nail art occurred, plus a lot of eating and giggling and painting and pj wearing. I highly recommend the pretend sleepover idea, where everyone goes home to their own bed. Less than ninety seconds after declaring the party a success, the birthday girl was fast asleep. Next big event, this girl is hired.
