This Friday found us dodging raindrops and replacing a much needed item – my wallet. Last weekend I discovered my wallet missing from the diaper bag and recollections put that missing period sometime at the zoo last Saturday. So I’ve spent this week tracking down cards and getting temporary insurance card faxes, replacing a license, and hoping each day my old wallet would show up in the zoo’s lost and found – emptied or not. I deemed it a lost cause on Thursday, and so my short to-do list today was to replace my wallet. This I did, and with a style that I think I will like much better (no more digging through stacks of cards to find my library card or garden membership) and a lighter color to show up better in the bowels of the black stroller baskets and the inside of my purse. Three little owls were winking at me from one of the stores that I passed, and I purchased it with cash taken out of my temporary wallet – a manila folder full of half traced items. I met a friend for a bagel, at a restaurant where I was asked if I’d like to have a frequent buyer card. At the owl store, another offer for a store card. I bought a gift of bath bombs for a niece that was accompanied with a frequent buyer punch card… to all, I politely declined, determined to reduce the amount of items that I’d be sorry to have to replace again down the road. I know there are good deals out there to be had with “sainted” buyer cards, but there is something to be said for not having them as well. Less weight, less loss, and less desire to accumulate and redeem. Today’s find: a slim, new wallet which will hopefully stay just that – slim.
And what else did we find on this rainy, gray Friday? We found ourselves in outgrown first shoes (sigh, I will miss those little pink birdies) and an outgrown violin. We found ourselves bigger, a big size 5 and a big 1/4 size violin for the second grader. Thank goodness for Nana’s who like to buy new baby shoes, and violin rental places…otherwise that new wallet might be a whole lot slimmer. What did you find yourself on this Friday?

Have a great weekend.
