When I went back upstairs last night to take a few photographs of E’s ornaments, I found her in bed, sketching out gingerbread ideas in her diary. She was looking through a book on gingerbread architecture, and she said she was going to create a house that had an element of each architectural style in the book. I didn’t see how it turned out – that diary has a key! – but maybe I can convince her to let me take a look. This particular house is the same style as our own – Second Empire – and it would be lots of fun to have the time to cut out those slate shingles and fashion a mansard roof. I say that we’d never have time to craft something like this during the hustle and bustle of the season as I sit down each evening to tackle a few more insanely detailed Christmas cards. Maybe that’s a thought for next year…we’ll build a crazy house and then photograph it and send it out!
One thing I might tackle this year – making Christmas ornaments that look like iced cookies but last longer. It’s on my personal to-do list. That list that gets shoved to the back when everything else pops up. Here are a few photos of E’s ornaments. Slowly we are getting decorated and twinkled around here.
I got a glance at the house before the book was locked (and she made me close my eyes and cover my ears as she hid the key) – we should get her to open it again to see it in more detail. – M
