This Friday I find myself with both girls which is a nice little bonus. E is feeling much better than she was this time last week, and I think the three-day week helped a lot. We wandered around most of the morning, had a leisurely breakfast at The Mud House, lounged around in a bookstore, and then met dad for lunch downtown. Now it’s a quiet afternoon before the busyness of the weekend’s activities settle in. The baby is sleeping and we’re about to cuddle up together with a good book. I won’t feel too badly if I get a bit of a snooze in. Later, if the sun stays out, we’ll run over to the garden and see what flowers have defied the snow. If there are any signs of spring out there, they are sure to be in the garden. Some years it seems you just have to look a little harder.
Friday finds? A few. My favorite is this gorgeous book – A Book of Sleep by Il Sung Na. The illustrations are so beautiful.
I love the elephant, and his noisy slumber; the fish whose eyes don’t blink…
The white tracery of animals in the background against the night sky are one of my favorite parts, as are the giraffes so tippy-tall they rest their chins on the clouds like pillows.
Owls are always well received in this house, and this book is no exception. The thought of staying awake through the quiet night and drifting off in the sunlight may seem a bit strange, but we’ve all a bit of owl in us.
Hope this Friday finds you enjoying some bright light slumber, or wide awake for the nighttime adventures ahead.
