a bye-bye, and an important question

Posted on June 1, 2011 by thirdstoryies
If you ask a certain almost-two-year-old what kind of birthday party she would like she’ll tell you she would like a “bye-bye” party.  In our house, a “bye-bye” is anything with a handle – a backpack, a shopping bag, a picnic basket – anything that you can fill with cool stuff (like food) and head outdoors with.  This girl likes to go, and even when she’s playing she’s filling up “bye-bye’s” with her play food and hitting the door.  So a “bye-bye” party she’ll have.

Here’s where you come in…  I’m testing out the invitation design and winging it as I go.  I’m envisioning a basket woven from paper with some basket detailing (still in progress), this red and white gingham waxed paper I bought to wrap baked goods in, and a white inner card that will have the party information.  I’ll probably put some little white daisies on it as well, and maybe a few finishing touches.  And part of me really wants some ants.
I tested out some painted ants – they are shiny and dimensional, and I thought they could march across part of the invitation and make a “2”.  Cute or creepy?  The three of us go back and forth between the two.  (The birthday-girl-to-be was fast asleep.)

Ants. Cute or creepy?

I voted to keep the ants. The picnic plaid makes it work.
