Perhaps you remember the sad story of umbrella stand: part one. Perhaps you don’t, because really – it wasn’t the end of the world. But it was a birthday present from my sister and I ordered it from One Kings Lane and waited a really long time for it to arrive and then boom. It was shattered into fine ceramic dust. The first one was golden colored, and so pretty, but after it arrived in a million pieces and I had called and gotten my money back, I was really okay with it because it was a little too matchy-matchy with the gold stool that we now had. Since One Kings Lane is a flash sales site, there are no replacement items when something breaks – you just have to wait and see if something pops up that is similar down the road. When this gray one did I snatched it up, and now that it has arrived – in one piece, no less! – I’m really excited about the color. It’s got a fair amount of blue in it which will look really good with everything in the living room. Once the living room is done, decades from now.
Funny side story: When I called One Kings Lane to get a refund I offered to send them a photo of the sad, sad vase. I asked if they had another one, since it was a birthday gift and I was really excited about it. I made the poor customer service rep so sad about it (not on purpose, she just really was), that a week later I received a package with a handwritten note about broken birthday gifts and happy birthday wishes. And a nice candle. Very sweet, and unnecessary. Unnecessary in the way that an umbrella stand is here, since it will obviously NEVER RAIN AGAIN.
In other exciting news… well, you’ll just have to wait for exciting news: part two.
