On my desk (yesterday): this butterfly. One of many little projects piling up lately on my to-do list. This weekend was a good one for us. We spent all day Saturday cleaning the house from top to bottom – hardcore cleaning, plus laundry, closet sorting, etc. Sunday we ran some errands, but mostly just tackled the endless to-do list that is our life. Bills, paperwork, projects and signs for two schools, this and that, and also a lot of work on my sister’s house. Monday (today) was fun day. Bike rides, soccer games, and then the afternoon with friends watching the races. We’re back to the grind again tonight because one day (or even three) is really never enough. But I’m still very, very thankful to have it.
You probably recognize these butterflies from Eric Carle’s The Very Hungry Caterpillar. It’s probably a crime to admit this, but we don’t currently even own this book. We had the board book when E was a baby, but I think we passed it onto her cousins, and we’ve never replaced it. I printed off the image of the butterfly to make these two signs for F’s school. And then I dumped out a pile of paper scraps and set to work with an x-acto knife.
I’ll drop these off to be laminated tomorrow morning and we’ll pick them up tomorrow afternoon and hang them up. These are for the younger preschool and older preschool rooms (YPS, OPS), and they are really into butterflies so I thought it would be nice to tie these back into a book with a butterfly. Now I’d like to convince them to let me make the signs for all the babies and toddlers – the tiny egg on the leaf, the little caterpillar, and then the big, fat caterpillar. We’ll see if they go for it.
This also makes me think of E’s Halloween costume when she was two – she was this very butterfly. I should find out if those wings are still around – we had a great time turning cheap fairy princess wings into this butterfly with a stack of tissue paper and a glue stick. Guess who manned the glue stick? Just looking at those photos makes me smile. Maybe F will want to be the butterfly this year. Right now she’s gunning for a mini-Hermione.
