Both my girls are active sleepers. They sigh, they smirk, they smack their lips and giggle. Sometimes they sit up straight in their beds and appear awake, but then complete gibberish escapes their lips and they fall back down onto their pillows. The little one is a thumb sucker – at least for the few moments until she falls asleep. You can hear her going to town on her thumb, and then a little sigh, a few rapid eyelash flutters and a popping sound like a cork – thumb out, fast asleep. If you catch her in the car you can watch her in the rearview mirror, and if you’re lucky she’ll sweetly sleep-smile at you like an infant does in those first few days in this world. She may be three+ years out of that stage but you better believe it takes you right back.
Sleeping children = bliss. There is nothing sweeter in this world.
