I’m currently admiring this rug for the living room – it’s one of the finalists, and I ordered a sample a few weeks ago and really like it. It’s Dream On from Flor, and although the colorway is called brown, it’s mostly gray with some blues and plums and russets. It coordinates well with the dark plummy-red hardwood floors, and it looks good with the gray walls too.
I like that it is really random, and looks like old, faded patches of fancier oriental rugs. We have a tremendous amount of white in the room – at least we will once the bookshelves are painted and our NEW COUCH arrives (we bought it last night – hooray!), so I didn’t want a light colored rug, but I wanted to touch on the grays and the whites of the room, as well as look good with the wood. This seems dark and moody, and a good backdrop to everything else.
E and I did some serious math last Friday night, and we schemed and plotted and measured and multiplied / divided (in centimeters) until we arrived at the best layout and number of squares we would need. No small feat considering our living room is also our entry. We have a lot of zones going on in 260 square feet of space – library, living, entry, sometimes mudroom (ah, winter!)…
