life’s a circus

LifesACircus

These days are a little nuts, as we wind down from this recovery period. Everyone’s tired and stretched thin. The girls are sick with strep and recovering. I’m sore from a busy weekend and recovering. Work is crazy for both of us, and we haven’t figured out the recovery route for that yet.

Freak Show

It did feel good this week to get out and work with other friends on the event for E’s school this past weekend. The hours were long and late, but the company was good and I’ve not had a lot of opportunities to venture out much past work for the past six weeks. I also got to spend a few hours drawing and painting – a rare treat for me. I’ve been missing my physical outlets lately, but also my creative ones. It was so nice to get out the paints and the brushes and wing it.

Family Circus

Every year I’m in charge of doing the raffle basket posters. This year I decided to use watercolors, and went for a vintage circus poster feel – but beyond that I didn’t have too much of a plan. I kept the layout the same on all four, and changed it up in the center. The girls watched me work, and helped me with the geometry of the stripes and mostly just came downstairs each morning and said “totally awesome” in a whisper voice that completely made my day.

Backyard Circus

It’s almost Monday as I type this, and I’m sore and tired and the washing machine isn’t working (which is a problem when I have two pairs of pants that fit), and the kids are wiped and M’s out of town for a long day and life’s a bit of a circus for sure. Things will change this week – I’ll get the pin out of my foot, put on socks and shoes! for the first time since the middle of March, and the circus will shift from this one to another one – fitting physical therapy and end of the school year events into an already busy schedule. Sometimes you just have to embrace the circus as it unfolds – and find pleasure in it and beauty in it and humor in it whenever possible.

These are stunning! I’d bid on the items just for the posters!

I’m so excited to hear you get the pin out this week. Those socks and shoes will feel so good and probably so weird (light weight and incredibly normal). The physical therapy will be so good for you and I’m actually excited for the day I can start mine. I swear I feel so much joy for you right now! Congrats!!

Lets talk a minute about your posters. ARE YOU KIDDNG ME! They’re absolutely gorgeous. You are SUPER talented, Kristen. Those just blew me away. Really amazing!! That’s a skill I don’t have but if I could wish for one, it would be to draw/paint. I’m JEALOUS! XO
