(seventeen) January 2013. Details, details. When I look around our house I see a hundred places where the old meets the new. It adds up to so many discussions, sketches, tests, mockups. Some of these spots likely required a special tool, or a second run to the hardware store, or maybe a third. We’ve tried our best to respect the good bones of this house, even as we’ve updated it to make it work for our family. It’s an odd thing to do this at such a large scale as we’ve designed and detailed a significant alteration to the rear half of our site. It’s such a broad brush move at first glance, but it’s filled with a million moments of consideration and attention like this in process one. How new touches old, if done carefully and with great thought, is a thrilling moment for me that never grows old.
