The first photo is after I’ve awakened her (clarification: dressed her still sleeping body, brushed her still sleeping teeth and combed her still sleeping hair) and then carried her down to our bed to rest a bit longer while I dry my hair. I did manage to get her to open her eyes and walk down the next flight of stairs independently, but she just grabbed a pillow and continued sleeping while the oatmeal was cooking. For pete’s sake – it’s not like I’m getting her up before daylight, and she did go to bed at 7 the night before. Kindergarten rocks, and rocks hard. I may need to teach her the joys of espresso before she hits the first grade.
And thinking of coffee makes me think of her menu for next week that came home with her in her back pack today. I talked a little bit about it here, and the kid chef meals start next week – Wednesday and Thursday. Monday’s lunch is catered by a neighborhood restaurant – turkey burgers, baby field greens and orange slices, Tuesday’s lunch is catered by a neighborhood coffee bar – cheese soup, whole wheat bread and strawberry poppyseed salad, a team of three kids is making meatball and macaroni soup, nachos with apples and pears on Wednesday, and another team is making a trio of salads for Thursday – black bean and rice, spinach and fruit. And Friday, of course, is lunchbox day. To top it all off they get to drink this milk every day…my kid is eating way better than me at lunch. Add a nice warm coffee drink to that menu and I’m there.
