I meant to post this on Earth Day, but got sidetracked with the crawling wonder. We were all disposables the first time around with E – our efforts at filling less landfills were concentrated around getting her out of diapers as soon as possible. She participated by being diaper-free at 20 months. This time around there were lots of new options out there. We settled on the g diapers – a happy medium between disposable and cloth. There’s a washable outer liner that gets worn for multiple diaper changes – sometimes all day or more. There’s an inner plastic liner that can snap in and out if it gets dirty. And then there’s a biodegradable insert that gets most of the abuse. You can flush it, compost it (the wet ones, not the dirty ones) or just toss it in the trash knowing that in less than 50 days its a goner.
We’re still aiming for that ultimate green goal – diaper free asap. We’ll let you know how that goes!
