Why is it that we rejoice at a birth and grieve at a funeral? It is because we are not the person involved.
– Pudd’nhead Wilson
You are often reluctant to make a big to-do about your birthday – you love to celebrate with others, but you’d much rather keep it low key for yourself. We offered ideas up – go on a bike ride, sleep in (ha! that’s a joke in our house), take a nap…”let’s go out – get a sitter – grab a bite or a drink somewhere or see a movie.” “Another night,” you suggested, and you got up and went to work on that special project in the basement for the day. This is how you are, who you are. You are always happiest when the ones you love are happy. Eating cake and ice cream is probably a very close second, but still second. Good thing your oldest daughter is showing some promising cake baking skills. Good thing the youngest one is so cute (after a day like today-whew!)
Happy, happy birthday.
Side note: My dad made these chairs for M’s birthday and brought them out a few weeks ago. I was waiting to post something about them until his actual birthday, or for a moment when we were all outside enjoying them. Ha ha ha ha ha. It’s not really been a summer to enjoy the great outdoors. We managed to eat dinner outside for the first time in two months, and then we all took baths / showers afterwards. No kidding. Here’s hoping for a cooler, less humid fall. There’s a birthday wish idea for you…
Happy Birthday! I am very impressed by that cake!
