Right before the show began this year, E said to her dad “This is my very favorite part of summer.” I think that’s about true for all of us.
This year the performance time we wanted to attend was also Washington University’s alumni event, so we were able to purchase tickets through them, and got some Wash U hats out of the deal. We also saw many people we haven’t seen in awhile. Speaking of that – we were a couple of minutes into the show when we noticed that the photographer with the camera just in front of the big circular screen was a family friend from my hometown – and the photographer at our wedding. He discovered this circus last year, and they’ve welcomed him into their family. I mentioned before that his photographs of last year’s performance were featured in an exhibit in Kentucky earlier this year, and we have a print from that exhibit. It was fun to see him during intermission – and really fun that of all the performances he attended, it would be the one we came to as well.
This was the first time my parents came to Circus Flora with us, and they loved it. Now they understand our intense love of this yearly performance. E got to take a photo with one of her Bumbershoot instructors, and the duo that did the performance with the bands and the silks were incredible. We might lose this one to the circus one day.
After the show we cooled off with some Ted Drewes, and laughed at all the other circus goers (with WashU caps) that were there. It seems to be the universal place to go after any big event in this city. And look! A picture of us all together – after the custard was devoured. We have our priorities straight.
love to see your smiling faces! 😀
