Tuesday I made a list.
And then I instantly regretted it. I already stated my self-imposed ban on countdowns this season. Guess what? Turns out I’m anti-list as well.
I made the declarative statement to myself sometime after lunch – “no more lists!” and fancy that, NPR responded right back. Sometimes you read things or listen to things that hit you right where you are. For me, this happens a lot on public radio, but this particular time it was really spot on.
So take a moment to read this really funny article on NPR’s list-banning for this season here. And then treat yourself over lunch to their interactive Venn diagram-like non-list book recommendations. It’s a feast for the eyes and a welcome break from all the other lists.
What’s on my Christmas list this year? You know, if I were actually making one? A fireplace seems indulgent, so I’ll stick to the basics. Warm, beautiful throws, a stack of good reads, a nice bottle of wine or mulled cider, and the quiet, peace, and time to enjoy them.
I just dove into “The Shipping News” by Annie Proulx so I second that (non) list – book reading under a stylish throw with a glass of wine says “hello world, I’ve made it!” Cheers – CT
