I think July might hold the record for the lowest number of blog posts. I took two exams, traveled to Kentucky and to Mexico, and since returning from vacation I’ve entered into this unfortunate habit of not having much time for sleep. I just clocked 2,000 miles on the road in four days, and last night I filled the tub around nine o’clock. I sat in the water for a couple of minutes and let my ears sink to just under the water line. The next thing I knew I was (dream) falling, limbs striking the cast iron and water splashing all over the place. I can’t remember the last time I was that tired. Seven hours of sleep last night barely scratched the surface of the deficit.
August is my “month off” from testing – and after the last exam I took in July I was bubbling over with energy and enthusiasm for the break. I was so excited to have extra time to do things that I’ve been missing – so excited that I made a spreadsheet of those items. Unfortunately my priorities this week have shifted a bit, and my to-do list starts with “catch up on sleep”. Finding that balance as summer schedules wind down and school schedules wind up, playing catch up in the office, and gearing up in a few weeks for another four rounds of exams is going to make that tricky. I’m already dreaming of Saturday morning with no alarm clock, and a few more nine o’clock bedtimes whenever I can squeeze them in.
