The big news of the weekend was the arrival of my adorable little niece on Friday night. The last hour of work was a wash for me – I kept receiving updates and finally had to pull over on my drive home to get the final news. I can’t wait to snuggle that little bundle of cheeks. We know how to do cheeks in our family.
The sun came out Saturday morning bright and clear, and it was a gorgeous day for soccer and long runs and a lot of running around. Since my evening running hours are in winter mode now, I resorted to the treadmill on Thursday night (blah, shoot me now), and after that I decided that I’d just find a way to get in some longer runs on the weekend before things get too icy and frigid. I blocked off a chunk of time in the middle of the afternoon and ran ten miles for the first time ever in my life. I felt like I could have run longer but I was out of time. I decided on the drive home that I can handle a half marathon, so I’m just going to do it.
I drove F out to a birthday party that evening, and when we got home, M and I had a late dinner together before I got the paint supplies out. Earlier in the day I took the entire bathroom apart and scrubbed everything from top to bottom, including the walls. Here’s a quick camera phone shot of the first blue – I just taped a piece of white foam core up above the top board to cover the black. I’ve got another blue to try out – maybe tonight, and I took a lot of before shots of the room with my good camera, so I’ll post on the progress in the room soon.
Sunday was another busy day, but an enjoyable one. F wrapped up her soccer season (with her dad as one of the coaches), and then we headed across town to a birthday party with friends.
The kids made pinch pots at Krueger Pottery, and then they made another pinch pot which they transformed into a monster. I can’t wait to see how they turn out once they’ve been fired and glazed. After pottery making the group headed across the street to Serendipity Ice Cream for dessert. What a fun idea for a party – for kids and grownups alike.
We ended up on a late evening grocery run, and then an even later dinner out at Dewey’s for pizza and my favorite seasonal salad there – the Harvest. Home again, baths, books, bed. The house is relatively clean and calm and cozy, a good feeling to go to sleep on before another week starts up again.
Art and Dewey’s in one day — it is almost too much heaven 🙂
Love the baby — love the cheeks. Happy happy for you all.
Love busy weekends that close with a sense of order. Many congrats on baby’s arrival. I adore those new baby moments as an aunt or a friend – so much anticipation. I love anticipation.
